LED Linear Lights

Architectural LED Linear Lights — Seamless Lines, Custom Lengths

Linear lighting is where a project either looks designed or looks improvised. The difference is almost never the LED — it is the joint. A visible break every metre, a colour shift between two units, or a connector that fails after a season will ruin a continuous line no matter how good the diodes are. We manufacture 84 linear models from 1W to 12W per unit, designed around end-to-end connection, consistent binning and a constant profile so that a 30-metre run reads as one line.

The Three Linear Families We Build

Why the Joint Matters More Than the LED

On a continuous run, light leaks at every junction between two units. Cheap linear fixtures butt together with a visible dark line because the diffuser ends before the housing does. We design the end caps so that the diffuser runs to the edge of the profile and the connectors sit in a sealed channel behind it — the result is a line with no perceptible break. Where a run must be assembled on site, the connectors are keyed so they cannot be mated the wrong way, which prevents the polarity errors that cause half a run to go dark.

The second issue is colour consistency. Two units from different LED bins will show a visible step in a continuous line even if both are nominally 3000K. We specify 3-step MacAdam binning on linear orders and, for runs longer than about 10 m, ship from a single production batch.

Length, Voltage Drop and Power Injection

Standard units are supplied in fixed lengths, but the profile can be cut and assembled to your module length. Two practical limits govern the design:

Diffuser Options and the Look They Produce

Opal diffuser: even, dot-free light, the default for architectural lines and ceilings. Clear cover with lens: higher output with a controlled beam, used where the line must throw light onto a surface rather than glow. Microprism: reduces glare without losing output, preferred in offices and retail where the fixture is in the field of view. Asymmetric: for wall-grazing from a linear profile, using the same body as our wall washer range.

Indoor and Outdoor Versions

The same profile family is built in IP20 for interiors and IP65 for exterior use. The outdoor version differs in three ways: a silicone gasket rather than a foam seal, a potted driver or a sealed driver compartment, and stainless rather than plated fixings. If a line runs from inside to outside — a common detail on canopies and entrance soffits — specify the IP65 version for the whole run so the joint at the transition is not the weak point.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can your linear lights be connected end to end?

Yes, that is the design intent. Units connect through keyed connectors in a sealed rear channel, and runs of up to about 10–12 m on 24V can be fed from one end. Longer runs need a second feed point; we will mark the feed positions on the drawing.

Can I get a custom length?

Yes. Tell us the exact module length and the number of runs, and we will confirm the cut length and the resulting LED pitch so the light stays even across the run. Custom lengths typically add 5–8 days to lead time.

How do I calculate how much linear light I need?

For a contour or architectural line, 5–10W per metre is usually enough to read clearly at night. For a line that must also illuminate a surface (wall grazing or ceiling wash), budget 10–15W per metre and check the distance to the surface. Send the elevation and we will return a layout with power and feed points.

What is the difference between IP20 and IP65 linear light?

IP20 is for dry interior use only — it has no meaningful water protection. IP65 is dust-tight and jet-resistant, suitable for exterior soffits, canopies and wet interiors. Using IP20 outdoors is the most common specification error we see; it fails within a season at the end caps.
